A Natural Bond

… between a mother and her daughter.  It is something that I believe, we mothers of daughters, only truly "get".  The bond we have with them, that natural instinct that we have when it comes to knowing our daughters.  Oh how I love my son, and how he is so much like his father.  I suppose it is what makes me love him even that much more.  My daughter, instead, is very much like me.  I suppose it is why we often have power struggles, and butt heads each day, where i don’t seem to with my son.  I realize it is because Mary Jean and I are too much alike.  We are both headstrong and willful, striving to have our own way and not wanting to concede to the other.  Yet, when we are angry with each other and I manage to realize I am in the wrong (imagine!) and concede to her, even apologizing to her, she will just as quickly concede and run to me, realizing how much we need each other.  It is those times, when we can admit we are wrong that we connect and grow in our mother/daughter relationship.  The realization of how much we truly need and love each other, now more obvious to each of us.

I think it is natural to worry more about your daughters then your sons.  My son is so sensible, like his father!  And my daughter is a free spirit who wears her heart on her sleeve and wants to please others more then anything else.  I want her to be strong, and know that it is acceptable to say no, and stand up for what she believes in.  To have that future man in her life treat her like gold and for her to realize she deserves it.

So when I got a chance to hang out with this mother and daughter I managed to witness first hand the bond between them.  I hope I captured their relationship in the images I took that day!

I think it is easy to see their strong relationship, their closeness, even though G. being five is searching for Independence. She would climb a tree and then call out for mom to help her down, fear in her eyes at perhaps how high she was, and relieved when mom was there to help her down. I had a great time with you two.  Thanks for spending some time with me and I will have the gallery up very soon! click on images for larger view.

Sharing a Session

I thought I would consider sharing a online gallery, and full session of a clients here for others to view.  When a client books with me and their images are ready I create an online gallery, set to music, for them to view their images for a few days.  It allows them to see their images for the first time, and hopefully re-live a fun filled time that they had while hanging out with me.  It is funny as Jackie, who’s gallery I am about to share, told me her husband had made a comment after our session, saying "now that is how a photoshoot should be".  She may not have realized how big of a compliment she paid me by telling me that.  It is truly what I strive for in a session.  To have people feel as if they can relax, be themselves, interact with their kids and just happen to have a photographer there for a little while to capture their family.  And in the end, hopefully capture a genuine sense of who they are, and how they want to be remembered.  So without knowing it Jackie you paid me a very nice compliment and I am so glad you enjoyed your time with me.

Jackie said she would be happy to have me share her gallery with others and didn’t mind at all.  So here is the link.  It is only up for a little while so hopefully a few of you will get to see what it is like.

Here is also a slideshow I made for a family last fall.  This is not the ordering gallery rather a slideshow they got to keep.  Melissa and Craig were great as was their little girl.  She was a total doll and we had a blast this day!  Let me know if the link below doesn’t work!

Hope you enjoy the shows, and Jackie, I hope you are feeling better soon!

Busy and Fun time

I have had a hard time keeping up with my blog lately as life is just too busy.  The kids are wrapping up their school year, and both kids began playing soccer last week.  Hubby was away for a week in Yellowknife!  And no, there really isn’t much up that far north.  So life has been busy indeed the past few weeks.  This has been one of my busiest months yet with sessions.  With a business, the role of full time mom with running kids here and there, I am not sure which way to go most days!

Thought I would update the blog with some recent images though.  If you are waiting for photos and online galleries, hang in there as I am working away at getting them up for you to view.  Promise Jackie!

Last night I met a wonderful family for a session at the beach.  We have had such a great week for weather and for some odd reason last night it decided to get cold and windy.  Of course.  It clouded over which isn’t a problem for photography.  Perfect light in that respect.  But a bit chilly for the kids.  You faired well guys, and J. you so owe me that penny.  I balanced on the skinny 2 by 4 pretty good.  Didn’t fall!  She bet me I would fall, but not a chance.  One learnes to be agile doing this job as I often find myself in a tree, or perched precariously on top or edge of something.  Whatever it takes to get the shot!

A few from last night. Thanks guys I had fun!

In this shot you can’t actually see my son’s face!  But loving how he is reaching for the bubbles and the composition of the image.

And this sweet baby from awhile ago.  Love pink and orange together!
